The soft hum of versation filled the Charms as students filed iling into their seats with the usual mixture of energy and dread that apanied Professor Flitwick’s lessons. Luna Lovegood, as usual, floated in with an air of detached curiosity, her silvery-blonde hair catg the m sunlight streaming through the high windows. She selected a seat he back, her eyes sing the room as though searg for something no one else could see.
Without Harry or Daphne, her usual panions, the room felt a bit emptier. Luna didn’t mind, though. She had a unique way of finding pany even in solitude. A few cssmates whispered amongst themselves, throwing the occasional gnce her way, but Luna paid them no attention, instead arranging her materials in what could only be described as whimsical order—a quill banced on the edge of her inkpot, her wand id delicately atop her part like a ductor’s baton.
Professor Flitwick, ever cheerful despite his small stature, climbed onto his stack of books at the front of the . “Good m, everyooday, we’ll be tinuing our study of Avis, the juration charm that summons birds. A delightful bit of magiow, wands at the ready!”
“Aghhh, why are we still on this spell?” Ginner mutters in frustration.
Professor Flitwick’s keen ears caught the muttered pint, auroward the redhead with a raised eyebrow, though his expression remained kind. “Ah, Miss Weasley, a fair question! While Avis may seem simple at first g is a spell that requires precision, focus, and creativity. Remember, mastering even the most straightforward charms y the foundation for truly exceptional magic ter on. Besides,” he added with a small, knowing smile, “juration is not as easy as it appears. I daresay you’ll find it challenging to summon a proper flock if your wandwork isn’t just so.”
Ginny slumped slightly in her seat, grumbling under her breath, “Still feels like busywork.”
From her spot he back, Luna tilted her head, her dreamy voice cutting through the murmurs. “Perhaps the birds are tired of waiting to be called. They might be hoping someone will jure them in a way that makes them feel truly free.”
The css turo look at her, a mix of curiosity and fusion on their faces. Ginny rolled her eyes. “Leave it to you, Luna, to make a homework spell sound poetic.”
Luna didn’t seem bothered by the jab. She merely smiled serenely and raised her wand, waiting for the signal to begin. Professor Flitwick cpped his hands, signaling the students to start practig.
“Avis!” Ginny called, her wand swishing sharply. A few birds popped ience, but their feathers were patchy, and one immediately tried to peother. Then a fight had broken out between all the pigeons.
Ginny groaned in frustration. “Stupid birds.”
“Ginny… You summohe rat birds.” Luna states
Luna had frozen as everyone looked at her. Weasely and Rats… Did Harry haer? Or was the rat still scurrying around somewhere? The fleeting passed as she raised her wand.
“Oh Yea? Why dont you give it a go Luna.” Ginny responds rather spitefully. An that was either from the fact she had married Harry or the bad break up they had, had as childhood friends.
Luna looked between Ginny and her wand raised in the air with a singur eyebrow raised. Her silvery eyes unbothered yet thoughtful. "Rat birds do have their own charm," she said, her voice as airy as ever, "but I suppose I give it a try."
She stood, her wand held delicately in her hand, and focused on the spell and whispered, “Avis.”
The result was immediate and breathtaking. A flock of luminous birds emerged, not sparrows eons, but ethereal lunar swallows, their silver forms shimmering with faint trails of stardust. They sracefully around the , their delicate chirping filling the space with a soft melody. One bird nded on Luna’s outstretched hand, nuzzling against her fingers as though it had been waiting for her.
The css fell silent, every eye on Luna and her celestial flock. Ginny’s jaw dropped, her earlier irritation giving way to shod maybe a hint of envy.
“That’s not fair,” Ginny muttered, her cheeks red. “You’re not supposed to show off.”
Luna looked at her, a serene smile on her lips. “I wasn’t showing off, Ginny. They came because I called them kindly.”
Professor Flitwick was beaming, g his haedly. “Extraordinary, Miss Lovegood! Truly extraordinary! Ten points to Griffyndoor and take another fifty for proving that it is in fact possible to summon magical creatures.”
Luna sat back down and decided to take part in her favorite hobby people watg. her gaze wandered across the , the steady progress—or ck thereof—of her cssmates as they practiced the Avis charm. Most of the students mao summon mundane birds, sparrows and robins fluttering and chirping through the room, though a few attempts resulted in nothing more than puffs of feathers or frustrated groans.
The Hufflepuff boy with unruly hair finally succeeded in juring a bright blue jay. The bird preeself on his desk, and his face broke into a wide grin. Luna smiled faintly. Blue jays are such clever creatures; perhaps it suits him.
To her left, a Slytherin girl was gring at her wand, muttering something under her breath. Her attempts had jured nothing but cre, clumsy ohat stumbled around the floor. A crow squawked loudly as it collided with a chair, and Luna tilted her head, watg the girl’s rising frustration. Crows are symbols of transformation and intelligence. Perhaps the charm is telling her something she doesn’t want to hear.
As the st of the summoned birds faded into soft bursts of magic, Professor Flitwick cpped his hands. “Excellent work, everyone! I’m very proud of your efforts today. Please practice the charm in your own time, but do remember—no juring birds in the Great Hall! The house-elves have enough to mahout stray flocks flying about.”
The students chuckled lightly, gathering their things as they prepared to leave. Luna tucked her wand away and slung her satchel over her shoulder, an with a quick, light step, Luna darted out of the , weaving through the crowd of students filling the corridors.
Daphne likes to stop by luna’s csses and give her chocote.
The corridors of Hogwarts were bustling with the afternoon crowd, the ambient chatter blending with the echoes of footsteps against the stone floor. Luna wahrough the throng with her usual dreamy grace, her mind a whirl of thoughts about Animagi, rats, and everything iween.
She didn’t notice the figure closing in behind her until a pair of arms suddenly ed around her waist. Startled, she froze, her silver eyes widening as a familiar voice murmured in her ear.
“Caught you,” Daphne said, her toeasing and warm.
Luna blinked, her momentary surprise melting into a radiant smile as she twisted her head slightly to g Daphne. “You did,” she said softly. “I wasn’t expeg you to sneak up ohat’s usually my job.”
Daphne chuckled, resting her lightly on Luna’s shoulder. “I saw you dart out of Flitwick’s like a niffler spotting gold. What’s got you in such a hurry?”
Luna sighed, leaning bato Daphne’s embrace, the tension easing from her posture. “I was looking for you, actually. Something’s been b me—” Luna starts only to stop as Daphne pops a piece of chocote into her mouth.
“Dont worry too much, we talk about whatever is going on with Harry at lunch. We ’t have you te for your css.” Daphates lightly pushing Luna off into the dire of History of magic.
