4. All Aboard

On the edge of town, there is an abandoned train station, sitting in the middle of an overgrown field. It isn't much; just a small concrete ptform, with a few traffic signs around it. The tracks themselves have been lost to the lush growth of tall grasses and their roots. As the sun begins to set, nearby residents who are familiar with the sound might hear the old train whistle blow, as a silhouette of a man can be spotted on this ptform at twilight. He walks up and down the ptform, checking his pocket watch. As he performs his duties, a handful of people wander through the field toward the ptform.

In the distance, the familiar sound of boured whirring erupts through the field. As iron beams push and pull as the wheels spin along what was once a track, the sight of The Charon begins to come into view. The conductor beams, and greets people with a kind handshake and a welcome as they join him on the ptform. He has a dignified look to him, with his neatly trimmed moustache and strong brow ridge, and watches proudly as the train pulls into the station. As he opens the door, calling "All aboard!", passengers begin to pass through, and as he collects their tickets, he marks off a small checklist on a piece of paper he has.

"Pleasure to have you aboard, Mary." He says, as he marks an old woman off of his list, "Pleasure to have you aboard Kyle. Pleasure to have you aboard, Liane. Pleasure..."Greeting passengers one by one, as the line grows shorter, he furrows that thick brow and narrows his eyes."Not again... not this again... where on earth is she? Sorry. Pleasure to have you aboard, Lucas."The line grows shorter, and suddenly the st person in line is a young woman, dressed casually. The conductor breathes a sigh of relief, then looks back at his list and frowns again."You..." He says, wearily, "You wouldn't happen to be Eliza?"The girl shakes her head, "No? I'm Chlo?."The conductor sags, taking her ticket, "Pleasure to have you aboard, Chlo?. You are on the list... we are just missing someone. Don't suppose you saw any wandering spirits out tonight?"She shakes her head, and the conductor strokes his chin and tuts, then checks his watch. A few minutes pass, and he goes to speak with the engineer to expin the situation. After a bit of back and forth, they decide that he should blow his whistle again, but after another few minutes of waiting, nobody arrives. Finally, he pulls off his cap, nods to the engineer, and raises his hand, causing that ghostly train whistle to blow once more."It's been four years, Eliza. When are you coming to rest?"

In a cemetery on the other side of town, a girl with bck-green ombre hair tied up is digging up a grave. She hears an eerie whistle in the distance, and for a moment her heart stops, and she feels her body pulling away from her, but she regains her strength, and she pulls herself back into her body."Not tonight..." She mutters, as she hits the wood of the coffin, "Definitely not tonight..."
