Volume 2 – Courting Death Is An Understatement V

  'W-what is this?...

The words barely made it out, a thin scrape against the roof of his mouth. Jeffrey's voice sounded distant even to himself, like someone shouting from the bottom of a very deep well.

His right hand still rested on the steering wheel. He could see the knuckles, dark in color. He tried to make them tighten, yet, in his attempt to move even in the slightest, nothing happened.

The command simply… fell away, swallowed by a growing soft bck space inside his skull.

  '…I can't move.'

The realization arrived not as panic yet, but as a cold, factual statement. Like noticing the sky is the wrong colour.

  'I can't feel my body.'

  The numbness wasn't creeping anymore.

  It had already arrived.

As if it had been waiting.

Fingers, toes, the small ache in his lower back from trying to lift the crusher, all of it simply wasn't there.

It was not painful...no he doesn't feel anything at all...just… ck of all physical sensation.

The body was still breathing, his heart still knocking against ribs, but the signals no longer reached the pce where Jeffrey lived.

He tried to scream but it was only possible inside his head.

'Someone. Anyone... Help me! Please! I can't feel anything!'

  Obviously no one answered.

The inside of his skull had become very quiet, except for the small, frantic animal that was still him.

Then something horrifying happen, right before his eyes.

  'Ha…

He groaned shocked at the sight.

'W-Why is me hands suddenly moving.'

  His hand had suddenly moved.

Yet he didn't move it by his will.

They lifted from the wheel with calm grace as his palms turned upward. Fingers flexed once, twice, as though testing the fit of an unfamiliar gloves.

  And then the voice came.

It was his voice, he was suddenly talking, despite being unable to.

"So this is the man-creature's body."

  A soft, considering pause.

"I must say… it is not especially remarkable. Not like my original one atleast."

The words vibrated through Jeffrey's own chest.

He felt them leave his mouth the way one feels an earthquake through the floor, distant, unstoppable, nothing to do with him.

  'Man-creature..?’

The phrase lodged in his mind like a fish-hook.

'No. Wait. Why am I...why is my mouth saying that? What the hell is happening to me?'

He tried to shout inside the only pce still his.

Till eventually, he started to realize what is truly happening here.

  'Wait, am I...am I?...

He stuttered his words twice, till he finally asked the obvious question.

  'Am I being possessed?'

The question felt absurd the moment he thought it, and at the same time the only sane expnation left.

'Of course you moron, it's possible if I think about it...you're in a supernatural world, you idiot. Wake the fuck up. The real question is who. Who is controlling me right now?'

'Is it a Hesta, or worst some kind of Flux?'

'Hey. Hey you. Whoever you are. I know you can hear me. Get the fuck out of my body.'

  Silence.

A deeper, colder silence than before.

'HEY! DO YOU FUCKING HEAR ME YOU BASTARD...GIVE ME MY BODY BACK!'

  Nothing.

The body, his body, tilted its head slightly, as though listening to a fly buzzing inside a jar.

Then the voice spoke again, using his tongue, his teeth, his spit.

  "Jesus Christ, man-creature."

The entity, or rather Nier began to speak using Jeffrey's own body against his will to communicate.

But his words where far from friendly.

"…would you shut the fuck up."

Nier said to Jeffrey, as the smile on his face completed itself.

It was slow in the making, thin as a new scar, and so completely alien to the face that wore it seem inhuman.

And anyone who had glimpsed it through the windscreen would have felt the small instinctive recoil of prey recognizing the shape of a predator's mouth before the instinctive mind had time to name the danger.

Then the light inside Jeffrey simply went out.

Nier reached in with the calm indifference of someone blowing out a candle.

One moment there was still a faint, terrified voice trying to form words; the next there was only silence.

  'W-what… why do I… feel so sl… sl… sle…

The thought trailed away into nothing, dissolving like smoke in a closed room.

Jeffrey's mind folded in on itself and sank into a deep, dreamless exhaustion.

As a result only Nier remained.

He was, at once, two pces.

Outside, leaning against the wall by the association entrance, red eyes glowing faintly beneath the hood.

And here, in the driver's seat of the old, rust-edged sedan, breathing through lungs that were not originally his, feeling the faint vibration of the idling engine through bones that had once belonged to someone else.

And then the memories began to arrive.

They did not flood in like water through a broken dam.

They seeped in quickly like an uninvited guests settling into the furniture of his mind.

The warm, faintly sweet-salt taste of Jeffrey's mother's milk against his newborn tongue.

The sudden shock of gravel biting into small knees after the first pyground fight he had as a kid; the copper taste of blood; the wild, stinging pride of winning even while tears ran down dirty cheeks.

The skittering terror of cockroaches in the dark, their legs whispering like dry paper across a floor.

The scalding comfort of too-hot bathwater when he was three years old, mother’s hands careless but kind, steam curling around his small naked body like forgiving ghosts.

The smell of his father's leather jacket after a long day.

The exact note of Marcus ughter when he was six and still believed his father could mend anything broken.

  Every hidden shame.

Every private moment with his wife, and other moments where he had cheated on her multiple times.

  Everything.

Nier sat motionless in the stolen body and let the memories settle inside him like fine silt at the bottom of a river.

He could feel the rhythm of this heart, how it quickened when it thought of the boy, how it slowed when it remembered the divorce papers lying unsigned on the kitchen table.

He lifted the hand that had once been Jeffrey's Thomas and studied the faint lines etched across the palm.

  A life, fully known.

  No corner left private.

  "It is strange."

He said aloud, using the other man's voice as though trying on an unfamiliar coat.

"....to be here… and there at once."

Through the windscreen he looked across the narrow street.

There he stood, the first self, the original, still leaning against the wall near the entrance.

The figure lifted its chin in faint acknowledgment.

  Two bodies.

One mind stretched taut between them, and yet, Nier felt he could easily take over the bodies of multiple others, right now he is here yet he is also there, he felt no resistance or strain, just brand new perspective of being.

"Now, let's see if this actually works."

Nier muttered, as he gazed down at his hands, Jeffrey's hands, and a moment ter, pitch-bck fmes erupted from his palms, flickering with an unnatural bck burning light.

Nier in Jeffrey's body, eyes began to turned completely bck as they fixed on the dark fire.

Synopsis: An original spell created by the Apostle of Dark Fertility, Nier Featherburn Augustus. This is a fme capable of burning away all physical matter, it can range from instantly or gradually. It bypasses every known form of durability and can even melt down objects and substances considered naturally indestructible. The spell was born from the Authority known as Unlimited, the spell itself is a power of pure, eldritch destruction.

When Nier saw the bck fmes dancing perfectly under his control, a wide, delighted smile spread across his face.

"Excellent… It seems I can use all my other spells as well. Thanks to the power of the Mind, Soul, and Body spell, this body is truly mine now, and my abilities are also usable within them. Haha… With this power, I can move freely, hide in pin sight, and the commanders will never suspect a thing."

Nier had barely finished speaking when it happened.

A pair of soft hands suddenly covered his eyes, plunging him into perfect darkness.

  "Guess who?"

The voice familiar voice whispered from behind him

Nier exhaled through his nose, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.

"Kaly… If I hadn't recognized your touch, I would have turned you to cinders for startling me like that."

She ughed, low and melodic at Nier's pyful provocation.

"Oh darling, please. Even if you annihited this little shell, I would simply gather myself anew and you know that."

"…It must be convenient being so fucking overpowered."

Kaly's tone softened, as she hugs Nier from behind.

"And you speak as though your own nature is any less transcendent. If the seal upon us were ever lifted, you would behold all of existence the way one watches a movie, only difference is that the movie in question would be existence, pying all at once across every possible instant. The material sphere, the realm of space, time, causality, fundamental dimensions, and yered realities to us Outer Gods is after all nothing more than existence itself, like a grand stage."

"Yeah, yeah I know...still how rge is existence even is between the two sphere's."

"Quite big, but the immaterial sphere itself isn't something you can calcute with mere numbers it more like Eldritch idea more than anything else…so it is something else entirely."

"Wow, even now I find it hard to grasp with your words alone."

"I don't bme you since your new to this, given that it stands already beyond space and time, beyond every dimension and every realm. It is the pne that is our home, a pne so up there, just being there make us more real than anything else that occupy the Material Sphere. Above it though, the highest summit itself isn't even a pne but an absolution."

  "An absolution?"

"Yeah, the absolution being god, an unsurpassable existence."

  "So formless chaos?"

  "Mhm."

"God as human would call it, or mother as we call it, but formless chaos cks gender or identity, even us Outer Gods can only understand it as a Formless Chaos, the primordial non-thing that has no origin, and because it has no origin, it means it was never made, for that reason it simply is. As such it always existed and never existed in the same breath."

"It possesses no shape, no boundary, no beginning. It is the sole thing in all creation without a maker. And though it cks a true mind as we understand it, there is a faint, dreamlike semi-consciousness to itself. It truly embody the saying God Works in Mysterious Ways."

  Nier tilted his head slightly.

  "Sounds almost enviable."

  "It is."

She agreed quietly. Then, shifting back to the present.

"And to think you sisters are fighting to decide who becomes it's new mind since all of you are just different personalities fighting for the right of true consciousness."

"Well Mother is a grand bitch in my opinion for putting us through that. It is for that reason why we need to work together, so my other sisters don't get the chance to become God. Once I have become the new chaos we can finally be together without worrying about anything else."

"I would definitely like that, just to with you and others forever without worry."

"Don't worry, if it is us, we will definitely clutch a victory darling, I promise you this."

"Hahaha, it's good to be positive I guess."

Nier said determine to help Kaly at any cost, so much so he asked.

"On the reals though how many followers would it take to restore you to the point you can unseal yourself, and also beat your sisters."

  "A great many darling."

Kaly answered, her voice steady once more.

"The hierarchy of the Waken is absolute you know. One stands above another not by strength, but by sheer existential supremacy even if there one Waking above the other, Waking are just states of absolution in that regard."

"To rise above my chains if this was the me in the past that got freshly sealed away, the cult would need many million devoted souls scattered across multiple instances of reality, enough to outweigh the weight of my sister's dominion."

She finally drew her hands away.

Nier blinked against the returning light and turned toward the mirror sitting with her legs sprawled on back seat as she look up at the cars ceiling, as Nier continued to speak.

"So… fewer than a single pnet's popution, in theory if your circumstances where fresh?"

  "In theory, yes."

She said agreeing with Nier's words, stepping closer until her breath brushed his ear.

"But remember how long I have been bound. Billions, perhaps trillions of years. In that span, my sister's Waking has almost certainly swollen beyond what they originally were in the past, most definitely at this point in time reaching past mere millions of eons ago if I had to take an educated guess."

"It is safe to say that their reach has most likely extended far and wide across uncountable amount realities by now, it is quite annoying, now that I think about it."

Her eyes darkened in vivid annoyance.

"Lust, that fucking two face bitch, used that fact to forged these chains that confined me so, as much as I hate admit it she bested me, even now she only needs to maintain her superiority over me using the Waking system to stand above me... Sigh I should have never shared how one can maintain there position, without fearing the death of our cult worshippers."

  "Ha what do mean?"

Nier asked, and Kaly responded to him, being completely transparent.

"It just like I said, even a single death among our followers weakens us Outer Gods in the past. That is why priestesses are indispensable. When ordinary devotees perish, their souls are consumed by them to maintain the number."

"The only reason my own Waking has not colpsed to nothing is because I myself was once the priestess of my cult as well as having another priestess too. That root runs so deep within me that even endless ages of imprisonment cannot fully sever it."

A small, bitter smile curved her lips.

"Sadly due to my motherly love for my siblings, I am now paying the ultimate price for my ignorance, I spoil those bitches too much and they repay my kindness with betrayal, I should have never shared this unique loophole, now all my sister's wield that same strategy without mercy… though, in truth, it was I who devised it long ago. It was the very method I used to ascend the dder of power. For a time, despite being only the third-born, I was once regarded as the second strongest among all my sisters."

"Wait, you were really the second strongest in existence, despite being the third strongest in existence?"

"Damn straight I was, but oh well, you reap what you sow."

"Well for what it is worth babe, you still have me."

  Nier said starting Jeffrey's car.

Kaly just chuckled as she kiss him on the cheeks, and said.

"I love you too darling, your such a sweetheart, anyways just leave the necessary command in this humans head, to make him spread the Geas some more."

"No worries, I promise before the trials tonight, I will make him bring back, good amount of new followers."

"I can't wait to see it darling, anyways I can sense Bel's presence approaching the front door, so disconnect from this man's body, and I will meet you back in your hoodie."

  "Mhm!"

With that Kaly suddenly disappear from the back seat, leaving only Nier in the Sedan.

  "Well let's get to work."

With that said, Nier left a series of command, making Jeffrey a zealot believer of the cult, while also leaving mental commands for bringing more people to the cult by tonight.

Right after Nier's mind that was two became one, as he awaited Bel, and soon after Nier heard a voice, as he looked at the association door.

"Hey there big guy, so how was the exam?"

Nier turn to the familiar voice, and that's when he saw Bel with both hands behind her back leaning sideway to meet his gaze as his back was leaning on the wall.

Nier just smiled as he said.

"It's went more than well, hmmm... Strange wasn't Marcy with you?"

  "Oh her, well you see…
