Chapter 18 – Shiro detects anomalies.

Seriously, that thing is faster than me. I only edited my speed to 5,000 so I wouldn't drain too much SP.

I should stop holding back and just kill this thing already. I just need to raise the edit value.

We were already far from the dragon's corpse. I was barely managing to avoid the spider's attacks.

  Tsk!

I clicked my tongue and increased my speed to 8,000. That way I'd be much faster than this stupid spider and have time to think about how to deal with it.

There's no real trick to it, is there?

I just need to drastically increase my strength and nd a single blow.

  SP: 69/85

The problem is that after evolving, my SP decreased since I went back to level 1. It'll run out quickly once I start attacking. But if I kill the spider in one hit, it won't matter.

I ran for a few seconds and hid. Then I activated Detection.

The problem was that the spider also had the same skill and could sense my presence. And its skill level was higher than mine. As soon as it located me, it rushed in my direction.

I hid between the dungeon walls.

I sensed it approaching before it reached me and switched my edit from 8,000 Speed to 10,000 Strength.

  Yes—10,000.

In a single second, the spider was right in front of me in a narrow passage.

The moment it entered my range, I struck with my front legs.

The spider had no idea I had increased my strength—probably because it wasn't intelligent enough. It raised its two scythe-like front legs to block, expecting to take minimal damage.

  Idiot.

Even if you're an "Anomaly," you're still just a monster!

When my attack nded, its bde-shaped legs exploded into pieces, and it was sent flying, crashing against the byrinth wall. I switched my edit back to Speed and closed the distance before it could recover.

Not that it would manage to…

Its HP had dropped by nearly 5,000. It was already on the verge of death.

It couldn't even run properly anymore.

Besides losing its two front legs, its remaining legs were damaged, and it could barely stand. Facing me, the spider gred with hatred. I could feel the bloodlust emanating from it.

I stared at it for a few seconds. It didn't try to flee…

  Because it understood it couldn't.

Seriously, how did you become this? Was it really because of the dragon's flesh? Now I'm genuinely worried about my own body.

I'm also worried that other monsters like you have appeared.

They might not be a problem for me, but the bance of the byrinth will be destroyed.

  Huff~~

I let out a sigh and struck the center of the spider's head. With my strength at 10,000, its head exploded into pieces, spttering even my body.

  Bleh, disgusting.

At least killing this thing should make me level up several times, right?

[ "Small Poison Taratect LV4" became "Small Poison Taratect LV5" ]

  Yes, that's what I expected!

I don't know if I'm supposed to gain that many levels at once, but I understood one thing: these anomalies give a huge amount of EXP.

Maybe I don't care that much about the byrinth's bance. I want to get out of here soon.

  Third-Person POV

Shiro stood in the middle of nowhere, in a desote-looking pce, staring at the sky. After letting out a long sigh, she looked again at the system message that had appeared before her.

[ An anomaly has been generated inside the Great Elroe Labyrinth ]

Ariel had already mentioned noticing something strange in the byrinth recently, and this message had appeared not long ago. However, she hadn't paid much attention to it. What could this anomaly possibly cause?

D hadn't even contacted her about it.

Still, her curiosity was beginning to grow.

'An anomaly, huh? Should I go there?'

After thinking for a moment, Shiro dismissed the idea and let out another long sigh. Seconds ter, Ariel appeared right behind her.

"You felt it too?" she asked. "That suspicious energy."

"Yes. Something is happening inside the byrinth," Shiro replied, maintaining her usual neutral expression.

Ariel smiled. "Are you going there?"

Shiro answered immediately. "Why would I? It doesn't interest me. Let's go back and prepare."

"I'm curious. I wonder if I should go take a look," Ariel said in a strange tone, as if expecting Shiro to say, Alright, I'll go with you.

But Shiro ignored her and continued walking.

"You're no fun at all, Shiro."

  "..."

When the two of them arrived at headquarters and sat down with the other commanders of the demon army, Ariel spoke.

"The humans will unch an attack soon…"

The discussion continued, but Shiro stared silently at the wall.

  Another message had appeared.

[ An anomaly has been generated inside the Great Elroe Labyrinth ]

And not just one—several began appearing…

She didn't know why she was receiving these messages, but she needed to do something about it.

  "Hey, Shiro, did something happen?"

"Ah, no. I just got distracted for a moment."
