Bulgaria: US moves military assets near Black Sea Coast

Lt Gen Evgeny Buzhinsky told Dermot Murnaghan that shooting down American missiles is the least that Russia would do, and that if Russian blood is shed in Syria, then Americans “will shed their blood also”.

“Your Prime Minister Churchill said if you had to choose between war and disgrace and you choose disgrace, then you get both. I don’t think Putin will choose disgrace,” he added.

Asked how close we are to nuclear war, Mr Buzhinsky said: “Very close – closer than we were during the 1962 Cuban crisis.”

He said Russia has been cornered and demonised from all angles.

“We are at all kinds of war with the collective West. Economic war, diplomatic war, information war – the last war which we’re not waging yet is a real fought war.”

Several T-72 tanks, BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers and Msta-S self-propelled howitzer spotted around Ufa, Russia heading west

Russia and NATO are escalating a war of words that could quickly devolve into an international arms race.

A day after Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a bellicose speech boasting that his country has weapons that would render international missile defense systems “completely useless,” North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) officials shot back, calling the speech “unacceptable and counterproductive.”

“We do not want a new Cold War or a new arms race,” NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu said in a statement. “All allies support arms control agreements which build trust and confidence, for everyone’s benefit.”

Ukrainian sources report an increase in military activity (T-64, T-72, BMP, MT-LB, 2S3 Akatsiya) around Kyiv both day and night

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have taken control over the village of Novo-oleksandrivka in Luhansk region, the settlement located in the so-called “grey zone”.

The advance saw no violations of the Minsk agreements, the Ukrainian military say. “[The retaking of Novo-oleksandrivka] took place a few days ago.

Unfortunately, I cannot reveal details of the operation,” press secretary of the ATO Headquarters, Vasyl Labai, told UNIAN. “We are strengthening or re-building our defensive positions, while separate units can improve tactical positions in certain areas, but it is not about violating the Minsk agreements,” Labai said.

Train loaded with several ‘Tor’ air defence missile systems spotted in Yeysk, Russia near Ukraine border

Sanctions on Russia will be lifted once Moscow agrees to bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine and no sooner, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday.

The German leader said that the removal of sanctions would be economically beneficial to both Russia and Germany but insisted that Moscow would have to cease its imposition on Ukraine before these sanctions could be lifted and the advantages felt.

“Ukraine does not have full sovereignty,” Merkel told reporters Tuesday at her annual summer news conference in Berlin.

Russia is moving military hardware toward Crimea and Belarus

They are still more than two weeks away, but Russia’s Zapad 2017 war games — potentially the country’s largest European exercises since the cold war — are creating jitters across eastern Europe.

For seven days from September 14, Russia will conduct large-scale military manoeuvres spanning western Russia, its Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad and its ally Belarus — which borders three Nato members, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.

While Moscow claims fewer than 13,000 troops will take part in Zapad 2017, western capitals expect the number could reach six figures.

Various military vehicles including ‘Msta-S’ howitzers spotted today in Voronezh Oblast near the border with Ukraine

US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin met during the G20 Hamburg Summit held earlier in July. This month has witnessed a diplomatic row between the two countries, expulsions of diplomats on both sides and a sanctions bill against Russia. The confrontation between Washington and Moscow has risen to a new level.

The US House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly on July 25 to slap new sanctions on Russia. These are America’s toughest sanctions against Russia since the Ukraine crisis in 2014, indicating US-Russian ties have plunged again.

The diplomatic row after the Trump-Putin meeting shows that political détente is not easy to achieve.
