Li's mom joined her hands together, while the vile woman jumped straight at her, the ferocious aura she emanated still not subsiding.
Her hair was constantly burning.
"Boring."
Li's mom didn't move at all, simply chosing to stay there and take the attack head on. While I didn't see energy around her like I saw for Li and that horrible woman, I could feel something felt different.
"Do you happen to know the components of fire ? I suppose so since you're cursed by a fire god."
What did she mean "cursed" by a fire god ? I know that woman said she had been branded by a god but it was hardly believable. The mere idea of such beings interacting with mortals felt silly to me.
Weird... When did I start thinking like this ? Is this nephilim stuff actually also affecting my personality ?
"I don't really care whatever you apostles do as long as you don't mess with my daughter."
"You speak too much, old hag."
The Maria woman nded straight on Li's mom, creating a pilr of fire. That pilr was ascending into the sky, melting everything around it. However, for some reason, it didn't feel hot. In fact, I was getting cold.
"If I tweak what the components are, this fire can become harmless."
The crazy woman was confused, as her target didn't even have a single scratch on her, not even burns.
"The ability to know is a powerful weapon, you know. Someone ignorant would never beat me. I simply decided you no longer needed oxygen or heat in that fire. I also decided to make the fmes you already produced harmless and cold, keeping the shape of fire but changing it to water."
What the hell was this woman ? Is this that "knowledge" magic Li was talking about ?
"What the ? My fire, it's completely boring now !"
"Just like your life, dumbass. Go reflect on it a little."
I couldn't even see when she moved in front that crazy woman and kicked her in the gut with her expensive shoes. She followed up by sending her straight into the wall.
However, there were no traces of impact nor destruction on that wall nor María.
"What did you do ?"
"I borrowed one of my daughter's tricks and changed that wall into a portal. I have no idea where that brat nded but it should be fine. She won't come back. Well, it's not like she could beat me anyway. My magic is way too dangerous for brainless idiots. To be fair, I can't kill her, only other apostles or gods and very high end demons can kill an apostle."
I still had no idea what all this knowledge stuff was about. Also, what the hell was an apostle ?
"Apostle ?"
She grabbed Li by the colr of her shirt while responding to me.
"They're essentially people chosen by gods to recreate the world. You see, they can't interfere directly with us, so they do it by human means. That isn't important right now, though, you must be the nephilim. Come with me."
Fearing this old dy and what she was capable of, I agreed.
"Just to be clear though, girly, I can't do anything about your body."
"What's the point then ?! Li said you could."
"She's dumb, I would need to know the inner workings of an angel metabolism for that and they're litteraly made to be incomprehensible. Even if there is a logic behind your change, the intricacy of your origin makes "knowledge" unable to apply such changes to you. She always assume I can modify anything but it's way different for beings that don't function on logic. If the fire of that woman didn't follow the same principles as actual fire, that would have been bad."
"Huh ?"
"Just kidding, changing the environnment would have done it anyway."
She took out a cigarette from her bag and presented her back to me.
"Jump on, you're going wether you like it or not. I'm gonna actually make you useful."
"No thanks, I think i'll go back home."
Somehow, I felt way more sacred when she said that than when I was alone with the crazy woman.
Before I could even realise it, I was inside a library.
"Who told you you could say no ? I need someone to protect my Li while I'm not around. I mean, there's plenty of new shoes i still need to buy."
